Saturday 9th June
Gareth and I managed to hitch a lift in a pickup truck down to
the beach from Stavros that was much appreciated as it would have been a sweaty
hot walk with all our gear back to the boat. Whilst we got the boat ready Viv
went to look at the pots in the museum and then she hitched a ride down as
well.
We had a nice sail out of Polis Bay across to Fiskardo back
on Kephalonia but then decided to go back down the coast for a bit and found a
lovely little bay about a mile and a half south of Fiskardo for the night.
We had a few day-trippers come into the bay at times but by
16:30 they had all left and we had the place to ourselves. I cleared a spot to
put the tent up whilst Viv and Gareth prepared dinner. I reckon half the goats
in Kephalonia must visit and pooh on the grassy patch above the beach, fortunately
it was dry and easy to brush aside. Gareth spent his first night afloat in the
boat tent and was lucky as it was flat calm and no passing traffic, although he
did think he heard a turtle come up nearby in the night but couldn’t spot it.
Gareth built a nice fire as it got dusk and we cleared the
beach of driftwood and kept the goats at bay.
Sunday 10th June
No rush to get up as we only had a mile and half to go to
Fiskardo and as it was a beautiful hot sunny day without a cloud in the sky and
a gentle breeze we motored into the harbour and found a little spot tucked in a
corner to moor up. We found a nice little taverna with a balcony overlooking
the entrance to the harbour and Kephalonia Channel to stop the night.
Poor old Viv has aggravated her Achilles tendon so spent the
afternoon resting up whilst Gareth and I went swimming in the next cove.
Next door to the taverna are the ruins of a roman cemetery dating
back to the 2nd-4th century AD, it looks like they used
to extend under the road and probably under the footings of the tavern. It
seems strange to be able to look into the old graves as you walk down to the
beach.
Big trip tomorrow back across to Lefkas for Viv and I.
Gareth is off researching buses to Argistoli to see if he can stay here another
day and watch the England-France match tomorrow or whether he has to set off a
day early to make sure he can get to the airport in time for his flight. It’s
been nice having him aboard and he says he has enjoyed his sailing.
