Monday 8th July

Arrived safely at Lochailort having driven up in brialliant sun and blue skies virtually the whole 400 miles from home. Dropped Viv off at the Youth Hostel in Crianlarich where she stayed the night in order to catch the train to Oban and the ferry to Mull to stay with Monica for a few days.

Met up with Sam and Brian in Crianlarich and then we travelled up together looking for a place to camp the night. We stopped at the Lochailort Inn and asked if we drank their beer could we camp nearby, the staff were very friendly and accommodating and let us camp round the back in the Chef's back garden. It had a great view out over the valley with hill beyond.

Having set the tent up we retired to the bar for a few relaxing ales and as some of the local were having an impromptu jamming session on pipes, mandolin, sqeezebox and flute it seemed rude not to go and get the guitar and join in and play a few tunes of our own. A nice way to spend a birthday in the absence of family.

We woke up this morning to blue skies and sun and just the birds singing and the sound of the stream in the valley below. The chef's rooms are not in use so were able to use the facilities and shower as well, a smashing place to stay over for the night.

Hopefully we will meet up with the other three crews today and put the boats on the water later, not quite sure yet where we will end up tonight!
