Sunday 4th Mayl
Currently sitting on the patio with a glass of wine in the
sun looking out over the bay, sailing has stopped for today as half of our
party have to go home whilst the rest of us get to stay another week, hee hee!
Yesterday Viv and I
took out a 32 foot yacht out for the day, we sailed out of Vounaki along the
coast to the island of Kalamos with Rachel and Simon McEvoy and Alan and Sue
Parry. We did about 23 miles all told, first time I have skippered a boat out
of the marina and then back after planning the route and helming the boat, we
arrived back within ten minutes of the time I had planned. Weather was lovely
at first but clouded over later and got a bit colder but still a lovely sail.
We had the prize giving yesterday evening as the first week was a Regatta sponsored by
Hartley Boats who build the Wayfarers amongst other designs. I got a t-shirt
and pack of Greek soap for winning the yacht race on Tuesday evening.
Friday I took out an RS 100 a small boat that is very tippy
but has a big spinnaker so once I had got used to it and hoisted the spinnaker
it flew down the bay and was great fun, I’m looking forward to trying it our
again next week.
Today Viv and I went out on the Hobby Cat and got her on the
helm and she really enjoyed it and couldn’t believe how fast we were going and
how stable it was. Later I took a couple of Irish girls who are part of an
Irish Hockey team over here on holiday who haven’t sailed before out on the same
Hobby Cat.
Tomorrow Viv and I are going out on a big yacht again for
the day with Sam, John Mellor and Monica
it seems rude not to take the offer up when it is all part of the holiday
package!
