Sunday 6th May

Sunday 6th May

We had a really first night in the tent on water in Koronisia, the wind blew top end of a force 5 until the early hours of the morning with spray coming over the breakwater onto the tent at times but we were snug and dry if a bit rocked to sleep inside. Luckily we had moved the boat into the corner of the harbor so had a bit of protection.
As got ready to sail in the morning there was a large turtle just outside the breakwater Viv managed to photograph. We joined the scrum for bread and fresh vegetables from the two vans that delivered to the village then said goodbye to Mikel in the cafĂ©. He made us very welcome and improved Viv’s German .
We motored clear of he harbor then set sail an island called Vouvalo about 2 miles south of Koronisia and uninhabited. As approached we could see it was actually three small islands joined by a strip of shingle between each one with a small lagoon inside.
We landed and as the nearest other person was at least two miles away took the opportunity to snorkel in the buff!
A beautiful spot to camp just us and the gulls, one mother repeatedly dived at us at she had a chick about 20 metres away but most of the others were incubating eggs.
Sunday morning we set sail for Vonitsa about 6 miles to the south, at first there was hardly any wind and flat calm so motored out of the beach then set sail anyway. Good job in a way as it was so quiet we could hear a dolphin surfacing nearby and watched it fishing for a a while then just at swam off a second larger one popped up. No sooner had it gone than a turtle rose just off the bow before disappearing back into the deep.
We had a lovely sail as the wind gradually picked up to a decent Force 2 and flew the spinnaker for about 4 miles before dropping it just as we entered Vonitsa.
An Albanian chap we got chatting to on the beach gave us 4 mullet and 2 lads in a fishing boat gave us about 8 large crevettes, we gave them enough for a couple of beers but looking forward to tea tonight.
We walked up to the Moorish castle above the town, a hot walk in the sun but stunning views out across the bay from the top.
Weather seems to be set fair for next few days so plan to return to Prevesa in the next cpuple of days before heading off towards Lefkas middle of next week.
Will spend tonight on the quay, smallest boat in town but drawing plenty of comments from passers by.
